Canon Marketing Japan Inc. will launch polish company OPTOPOL's world's fastest, highest resolution*1 OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)*2 instrument, "Spectral Domain SPOCT-HR" on January 7, 2009.
Canon Marketing Japan Inc. (President: Haruo Murase, herein after "Canon MJ") will launch polish company OPTOPOL (President: Adam Bogdani)’s world’s fastest, highest resolution*1 OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)*2 instrument, "Spectral Domain SPOCT-HR" on January 7, 2009.
OCT system examines the cross-sectional layers of retina such as macula or optic disk, and is effective to diagnose retinal diseases such as AMD, Glaucoma or Diabetic Retinopathy that rank high for the cause of losing vision. Canon MJ has been providing various ophthalmic instruments like Fundus Cameras, Refraction Systems, Tonometers and others, but in May 2008, concluded an exclusive distribution agreement of Ophthalmic Instruments and launched "Spectral Domain SPOCT".
The new product "Spectral Domain SPOCT-HR", is a top end model of "Spectral Domain SPOCT". It realizes world’s fastest*1 A scans (vertical) of 52,000 per second, which enables to scan about twice as fast as legacy model. By scanning the cross-sectional layers of retina in short period of time, it prevents image lacking caused by fixation disparity or blinking and enables observation of accurate and high-resolution tomograms that are required when diagnosing retinal diseases. In addition, equipped with world’s highest*1 axial resolution of 3 micrometers in dept, each tissue of the retina can be finely observed, which enables observation of fine focus (lesion). Moreover, by reconstructing high-accuracy 3D images with its analysis software and by analyzing with 6 different types of scan programs and glaucoma analysis tool, it realizes accurate clinical diagnosis that best fits the patients' symptom.

Price: 16 Million yen(tax not included)
Launch Date: January 7, 2009
Target of Sales: 200 units / year
1 As of November 27, 2008. As a commercial ophthalmic OCT instrument
2 One of 3D Fundus Image Analysis Systems. By shedding weak infrared rays to the fundus, it analyzes the reflected interfacial wave to image the cross-sectional layers of retina.
[Description of Main Features]
1. World’s fastest* scanning speed, enabling 52,000 A scans per second.
Realizes world’s fastest*1 A scans (vertical) of 52,000 per second, which enables to scan about twice as fast as legacy model. By scanning the cross-sectional layers of retina in short period of time, it prevents image lacking caused by fixation disparity or blinking and enables observation of accurate and high-resolution tomograms that are required when diagnosing retinal diseases.
2. World’s highest*1 axial resolution of 3 micrometers in dept Equipped with world’s highest*1 axial resolution of 3 micrometers in dept, each tissue of the retina can be finely observed. This enables high accuracy observation of fine focus (lesion).
3. Reconstructs high-accuracy 3D images of retina with wealth of scan programs Having 6 different scan programs; 3D scan, Asterisk scan, Single B scan, Animation scan, Circle scan and blood flow scan, it enables to make OCT imaging diagnostic that best fits the patients' symptom. 3D scan program reconstructs the retina precisely in 3D, and with the analysis module it realizes more accurate result. Also blood flow scan program, enables to observe the direction of blood flow by indicating in red and blue.
4. Variety of analysis software Equipped with variety of analysis software such as glaucoma analysis tool, it realizes more accurate clinical diagnosis.
5. Comfortable operation to realize smooth diagnosis Semi-automated measurement is adapted by using mouse. Before scanning, it enables to confirm cross-sectional layers of retina horizontally and vertically to obtain more effective vision easily and speedily. Measurement using joystick is also available.
* As of November 27, 2008. As a commercial ophthalmic OCT instrument
